Hua Hin Beaches

Beaches in Hua Hin

Hua Hin Main Beach

Hua Hin`s main white sand beach stretches some 7 kilometres from the town centre to Khao Takiab. It has yet to become as developed as some other Thai resorts, such as Phuket and Samui, and so even at the height of the peak season, you can always find a quiet little spot. Here, you can see the rock formation ( in front of the Hilton Hotel) from which this town derives its name — Hua Hin mean `head stone` . There are plenty of deck chairs, sun loungers and beach umbrellas available for a small hourly charge, as well as food and drink stands.

Getting there: Just a short stroll from the Satukarn crossroads, at the end of Damnern Kasem Road.

Khao Takiab Beach

Khao Takiab (Chopstick Peak) is a hill located 3-4 km south of downtown Hua Hin. Famous for its 20 meter tall standing Golden Buddha, it is clearly visible from the main Hua Hin beach. If you are feeling strong and confident, you could walk along the beach to Khao Takiab from the central Hua Hin. Should you feel less athletic, there is a Song Thew bus service from Hua Hin`s main market. However you get there, the Khao Takiab area now boasts an increasing number of guesthouses, small hotels, resorts and quiet restaurants.

Getting there: Song Thew (10 Baht), Tuk-tuk or Motorcycle taxi (negotiable).

Suan Son Beach

Just south of Khao Takiab is Suan Son (Sea Pine) beach, a long and quiet stretch of beautiful sand with plenty of pine trees for shade. The beach has some small food stalls and also some basic accommodation. Entrance is via Soi 99, which will take you through a military checkpoint — this beach is the property of the Thai Armed Forces! At the checkpoint, visitors are sometimes (not always) requested to pay 10 Baht. Although the beach is popular with Thai families on weekends, it can be very quiet at other times. Beach chairs, groundsheets and other beach items can be rented on site at very reasonable rates.

Getting there: Local bus(10~20 Baht), Tuk-tuk (approx. 500 Baht), or Motorcycle taxi.

Sai Noi Beach

Khao Tao, a beautiful, secluded little bay around 20 kilometres south of Hua Hin, has two quiet beaches - Had Sai Yai and Had Sai Noi. These often deserted beaches offer both golden sand (rarely limited by the incoming tide) and delightful seaside restaurants, making this area a great venue for a day out of town where you can relax with good local food and a swim in the ocean. If you`re lucky, you might even see some pink (yes, pink) Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins swimming by just a short way offshore.

Getting there: Chater tuk-tuk to take you all the way.

Beaches beyond Hua Hin

Pak Nam Pran Beach

This area used to be very quiet with a few bungalows but it is becoming very popular with foreign tourists and residents with many 5 star resorts and restaurants such as Evason and Tanao Sri resorts.

Getting there: by car or taxi

Khao Kalok Beach

Some 40km south of Hua Hin is the peaceful bay of Khao Kalok. Khao Kalok means “skull mountain” in English and the bay is long and wide. Khao Kalok can get busy at weekends with Thai familiesbut during the week, you can almost have the place to yourselves. There is an interestingly formed cave on the south side with a hole through its middle.

Getting there: by car or taxi

Samroiyod Beach

Another 10 km south of Khao Kalok, there is famous Samroiyod beach and national park. It is almost as beautiful as Khao Kalok but with more facilities along the beaches. The name literally meaning “the mountain with 300 peaks”Samroiyod”, is not only offering beautiful beach but also you can make your way up to caves of spectacular sizes through forest trails, take boat excusions to outlying islands, or you might be lucky enough to see pink dolphins that inhabit the bay.
