 Beaches in Hua Hin

Here in Hua Hin, it's now

Bullet Shirahama Beach  (E-69)HH Beach
Hua Hin's main white sand beach stretches some 7 kilometres from the town centre to Khao Takiab. It has yet to become as developed as some other Thai resorts, such as Phuket and Samui, and so even at the height of the peak season, you can always find a quiet little spot. Here, you can see the rock formation ( in front of the Hilton Hotel, Map D5) from which this town derives its name -- Hua Hin mean 'head stone' . There are plenty of deck chairs, sun loungers and beach umbrellas available for a small hourly charge, as well as food and drink stands.

Getting there: Just a short stroll from the Satukarn crossroads (Map C6), at the end of Damnern Kasem Road.

Khao Takiab Beach  (E-10) Khaotakiab
Khao Takiab (Chopstick Peak) is a hill located 3-4 km south of downtown Hua Hin. Famous for its 20 meter tall standing Buddha, it is clearly visible from the main Hua Hin beach. If you are feeling strong and confident, you could walk along the beach to Khao Takiab from the central Hua Hin. Should you feel less athletic, there is a Song Thew bus service from Hua Hin's main market.  However you get there, the Khao Takiab area now boasts an increasing number of guesthouses, small hotels, resorts and quiet restaurants.
Getting there: Song Thew (10 Baht), Tuk-tuk or Motorcycle taxi (negotiable).

Bullet Suan Son Beach  (E-11)Suanson Beach
Just south of Khao Takiab is Suan Son (Sea Pine) beach, a long and quiet stretch of beautiful sand with plenty of pine trees for shade. The beach has some small food stalls and also some basic accommodation. Entrance is via Soi 99, which will take you through a military checkpoint -- this beach is the property of the Thai Armed Forces! At the checkpoint, visitors are sometimes (not always) requested to pay 10 Baht. Although the beach is popular with Thai families on weekends, it can be very quiet at other times. Beach chairs, groundsheets and other beach items can be rented on site at very reasonable rates.

Getting there: Local bus(10~20 Baht), Tuk-tuk (approx. 500 Baht), or Motorcycle taxi.

Bullet
Khao Tao  (Off Map)
Khao Tao Beach
Khao Tao, a beautiful, secluded little bay around 20 kilometres south of Hua Hin, has two quiet beaches - Had Sai Yai and Had Sai Noi. These often deserted beaches offer both golden sand (rarely limited by the incoming tide) and delightful seaside restaurants, making this area a great venue for a day out of town where you can relax with good local food and a swim in the ocean. If you're lucky, you might even see some pink (yes, pink) Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins swimming by just a short way offshore.
Getting there:
Take a local bus10~20 Baht) to Soi 101 then hire a motorcycle taxi or Tuk-tuk; alternatively, charter a tuk-tuk to take you all the way.

BulletOut of Town Beaches
If you have your own transport and feel like getting away from Hua Hin for a few hours, then here are some nice, secluded beaches recommended by many local residents:

Haad Sai Noi
Located about 20 minutes (by car) south of Hua Hin, this can get busy at weekends but might be more peaceful if you are able to visit during the week.

Khao Kalok
You'll pass close by this one if you travel to the town of Pranburi. Getting there is a bit tricky, involving a less than straight 40 minute drive, but you'll be rewarded with a nice long beach with quite a few good restaurants. It says a lot that this place is very popular with the Thais!
Ao Manao
This is quite a journey, being located on the far side of the provincial capital, Prachuap. After passing through the city, look for the signs that will take you to a beach with water the colour of a tourist poster. Another one that's popular with Thais!
